MUSIC BIO AND SONGS
In addition to being a gifted actor, James is also a talented musician. His father taught him to play the guitar when he was 7 and he started writing his own songs at 12. His singing ability was proven to the world when he sang in the Buffy episode "Once More With Feeling."

Initially, he played his guitar and sang every couple of months at a number of small Los Angeles clubs - mostly covers, including Springsteen, Nirvana and Bob Dylan. He also performed with Four Star Mary (the band Dingoes Ate My Baby from Buffy).

In May of 2002, the band Ghost of the Robot (formed by Charlie DeMars and James) made their debut at 14 Below. Band members at the time were Aaron Anderson (drums), Charlie DeMars (guitar), Kevin McPherson (bass), Steve Sellers (keyboards) and, of course, James Marsters (vocals). Aaron left the Ghost of the Robot at the end of 2004 and Sean Hutchinson joined them on drums.

In addition to releasing one CD album in February of 2003 (Mad Brilliant), the band also released three singles (Valerie, David Letterman and New Man) and one mid-length "EP" (It's Nothing). Before breaking up in June of 2004, the band played numerous venues, including The Crest (Sacramento), The El Rey (Los Angeles), The Viper Room, The House of Blues and The Knitting Factory (Hollywood), Pickwick Theatre (Chicago), The Crazy Donkey (Long Island) and made two sold out tours in Europe.

James has said that singing is more vulnerable and scary to him then acting because "it is live and . . .sustaining a note and producing that sound makes you dig into an emotional realm or at least makes you connected to it." He has also stated that performing his own material is very frightening because it is so personal.

He has broad tastes in music, which include Tom Waits, Miles Davis, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Benny Goodman, Billie Holliday, Johnny Lee Hooker, The Sex Pistols, Charlie Parker, REM, Lou Reed. He also likes classical music, and has specifically named Beethoven.
